Materials:
1) shredded paper, preferably cross-cut. You can also chop some up with a paper cutter or an ambitious 6 year old.
2) old candle stubs, scraped-off drippings, etc
3) cardboard egg cartons.
Optional:
expired spices or essential oils
Tools:
A double boiler or wax bag
Old spoon
Old cookie sheet.
Directions:
Melt the wax in the pan or bag. Stir in the chopped paper. Soak the paper really well. Stir in oils or powdered spices now
Set the egg cartons on the cookie sheet. You can remove the tops, or leave them on.
Once it's good and goopy, pack the mixture into the egg carton
wells. If you are using cinnamon sticks, whole alspice berries, etc, add one to each well.
Once it's cool, you can use these to start fires. Just tear off a couple of the filled wells, and light. The wax catches quickly, and the paper burns hot enough to light dry wood. |

A variant I've seen on these uses small dry pinecones instead of the paper. _________________ "Cattle die, kinsmen die, one day you yourself must die....I know one thing that never dies:
