Hi everyone,
Wanted to give a heads-up - I just contacted my bulk food supplier (waltonfeed.com) to make a routine reorder of some pantry staples, and was informed that the prices on regular, non-instant non-fat dried milk have pretty much doubled in the past few weeks. They don't even have the prices listed on the site any more for that type, it all says "call for quote" (never good news...) Walton's still has some of the cheaper instant for the "old price" (special buy) but that will probably soon be gone and the next shipment will follow the regular non-instant price on price increases.
The sales lady I talked to says the increases are happening because everyone is hearing that milk will be five dollars a gallon some time in the fall. Now, I know that to a certain extent the price increases in this instance are because of panic buying, but milk prices are definitely on the rise, so if you want to set in a store of the dried product to substitute or make the fresh stuff stretch, you might want to try to do that soon. Very soon.

| Expect all foodstuffs to increase in price drastically over the next year or so. The combination of rising petroleum costs, which impact farmers and distributors, and upward pressure on prices for agricultural products for other reasons (like conversion of corn to ethanol), is a one-two punch aimed straight at the wallet. |

Well, was this a good call, or what?
Looking back over the past few months, this is exactly what is going on. |
