As a new member I guess I'll introduce myself, and then hope that it leads to a lot more activity or noise in the forum. My callsign is KG4BCN and my QTH "location" is in Tampa Fl. I'm retired US Army and new to the Druid scene, but not to the Pagan lifestyle which I've been in for probably 20 years or so.
I'm a General class operator and have a pretty decent station set up at home consisting of a Yaesu ft 950/ft 857/ft 817 and a couple of other toys.
I've been associated with the ADF for a couple of months now and am in the process of the Dedicant program. AND I LOVE IT!!!!!
Hopefully while I'm here I'll be able to collect some information and if I can I'd like to be able to answer any questions that come up, but do me a favor and remember "I'm the new guy" be gentle. |

Hey, mgolden!
I'm in the process of studying for my technician's license - I hope to take the test some time this spring or summer. (I had hoped to take it last year but had to put it off due to some other issues cropping up.)
I have an interest in eventually setting up a packet radio server, and running it on solar power and batteries. Do you have any experience with this?
I'll be sure to post my call sign when I get one. And welcome aboard!

OH BOY can I go on for hours with this topic. I don't have much experience with packet but I've been working most of the other digital modes PSK 31, RTTY, OLIVIA, etc for several years. My main radio is a Yaesu FT 950 and I run my home station entirely off of solar power. I thought it would be hard to set up to run it this way but it went together with no problem. It's nice when the power goes out and the radio doesn't miss a beat. I'm active with SKYWARN, and I've been listening for stations in Haiti every chance I get since the earthquake.
By all means if you have questions drop me a line at kg4bcn@tampabay.rr.com or here on the forum. |
